If you follow me on instagram (and if you don’t, YOU SHOULD!) you’ll know that from time to time I’ll post a video with some facts, motivation or a mantra.  I can’t take credit for the idea, I LOVE Arielle Caputo’s videos 🙂 After this post you can expect lots of healing mantra videos!
While at the doTerra Aspire Convention, I attended a session by Natalie Goddard on recognizing the emotional root of your ailment. Now, I love Louise Hay’s ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ and have the dog-eared, highlighted, post-it note filled copy to prove it… BUT there has always been something that’s bothered me about it.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the book, the premise of her book is that mental patterns create either dis-ease or ease with in your body. Our thoughts create our future.
One of the first pages in the book reads:
Some Points of My Philosophy:
We are each responsible for all of our experiences.
Every thought we think is creating our future.
The point of power is always in the present moment.
Everyone suffers from self-hatred and guilt.
The bottom line for everyone is, ‘I’m not good enough.’
It’s only a thought, and a thought can be changed.
We create every so-called illness in our body.
Resentment, criticism, and guilt are the most damaging patterns.
Releasing resentment will dissolve even cancer.
We must be willing to begin to learn to love ourselves.
Self-approval and self-acceptance in the now are the keys to positive changes.
When we really love ourselves, everything in our life works.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much of her philosophy, and her book, I agree with. Thought patterns are SO important, especially when you’re dealing with disease. What really bothers me is the thought that I created my health conditions. That my thought patterns have caused my autoimmunity or that something I’ve been wrestling with caused my avascular necrosis and complex regional pain syndrome. I can rationalize a self sabotage binge, I can rationalize stress causing ailments such as a stomach ache or a headache, but what I cannot rationalize is creating such havoc in my system that the result is an autoimmune condition, dead bone, and too many pill bottles to count.
What aggravates me and irritates me to no end, is the thought that I CAUSED THIS. I brought this upon myself.
Does that mean I’m in denial?
That I’m in denial and don’t want to take the blame for my health conditions?
I guess?
All I know is that my biggest take away from this book was that I need to love myself. That when you are suffering from an illness you’re given the opportunity to deepen the love you have for yourself.
And that’s just what I’ve done.
I’ve been using the affirmation ‘I am Love’ tirelessly for the last 10 months. And you know what, it’s been working. It started with small, minute changes and has evolved into the universe freely flowing around me. I still have much to learn and figure out, but I’m on my healing journey – which will continue until the day I leave this earth. If repeating daily affirmations can help me change thought patterns to create health, wealth and happiness, then I’m all for it!
In this video, Louise explains how thoughts create our future, how to use affirmations and how to start on the path to healing your life. I think she explains it beautifully.

If you’re anything like me, you were overwhelmed with that list. WHEW! I have A LOT of thought patterns to change.
So, because I was so overwhelmed, I started small.
‘I am Love.’
Simple enough, yet SUPERÂ impactful. This affirmation packs a punch. Learning to love myself first has proven to affect EVERYTHING.
I first started by saying the affirmation in the morning and at night. I then started setting alarms on my phone to go off during the day to remind me to stop, take a breath and to say my affirmation. I wrote this affirmation everywhere. On my desk, on my phone – I wanted this affirmation to become engrained in my brain. Fake it til you make it- right? Recently I heard the phrase, fake it til you BECOME it. It started as faking it. I can’t say I’ve 100% become it, but I’m well on my way . . . and I’m getting closer everyday.
Do I know what caused my psoriatic arthritis, my AVN, my CRPS, my anxiety, my depression, my melanoma . . .
Nope, not yet, but as part of my healing journey I’m determined to get to the root cause. My chiropractor always says the root of every health concern is either physical, chemical or emotional. Whether the root causes are physical, chemical or emotional, I will eventually get to the bottom of it.
So, with this Wellness Wednesday post, I pose this challenge to you.
Can you start to treat yourself with love and kindness?
Can you deepen your love for yourself?
Can you look yourself in the mirror everyday and tell yourself that you love you?
I hope the answer is YES.
Start small! Take one affirmation that resonates with you and start repeating it everyday. Even if that’s the only thing you do, I guarantee you’ll start a chain reaction of positivity! If you’re looking for somewhere to start, and don’t want to read Louise Hay’s book (or carry it around with you all the time!), you can download the app for $4.99 on your phone!
